CORDENKA wins iF material award 2010
Material Innovation PLA-CordenkaTM
Cordenka® technical cellulose fibers as reinforcing material for polylactic acid (PLA) breed an advanced composite material derived completely from renewable resources. The potentials of the material innovation convinced the Industrie Forum Design e.V. (iF) – jury at their awarding session in the framework of the 2010 CEBIT fair in Hannover.
Cordenka® reinforcement of PLA leads to gains in strength along with improvements regarding heat deflection temperature and, most remarkably, regarding impact properties, so overcoming an inherent weakness of PLA bioplastics.
The performance of PLA-CordenkaTM is expected to match the requirements posed to durable plastics in several applications, such as housings of electronic equipment.
PLA-CordenkaTM composite material for injection molding and extrusion is available on industrial scale.
Together with existing as well as with potential new industrial partners Cordenka will direct further work to application- and industrialization-related questions.
