By ensuring a controlled and lasting tire geometry, reinforcing materials can prevent vibrations, ensure excellent road-handling and guarantee those qualities throughout the tire's entire working life. Rayon lives up to the criteria for “quality”: it is good and it stays good.
A car tire is composed of rubber, reinforced with a fiber cord material in the carcass. Reinforcing material is required because rubber itself does not have the structural stability needed for proper vehicle handling and control. The two most common fiber materials used are rayon and polyester. Due to the superior properties of rayon compared to polyester, CORDENKA® fibers are used for high-performance tires and original equipment tires, while polyester is often considered sufficient for standard and after-market tires.
Rayon reinforcement has a positive effect on the tire's rolling resistance and therefore on the vehicle's fuel consumption. Compared to polyester, rayon generates much less heat during use; that means it also dissipates less energy.
